Artist collective exploring the limits · Heraklion, Crete
FreeTheSopranoPlayer is an artist collective founded in Heraklion, Crete, in February 2017 by Antonis Tsikandilakis, Maria Kritsotaki, Dimitris Neonakis, and Yannis Iliakis. The collective is dedicated to improvisation and interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together musicians, visual artists, dancers, actors, and creators from diverse artistic backgrounds.
Performances
FreeTheSopranoPlayer's mission is to create spontaneous performances that exist only in the present moment. With no predetermined structure or direction, each participant responds to the others through their own artistic language, allowing a unique work to emerge in real time before a live audience. Every performance is unrepeatable, shaped entirely by the energy of the moment and the interaction between the artists.
Founded by the FreeTheSopranoPlayer collective, the Freedom Day Jazz Festival was first held in August 2018. The festival brings together accomplished artists from Greece and abroad to celebrate contemporary jazz and the art of improvisation. Through concerts, collaborations, and original performances, it creates a space where musical freedom, creativity, and artistic exchange take center stage.
